Hi and welcome to this Printed.com tutorial on how to resize artwork in InDesign.

You might need to resize artwork for a number of reasons: for example, you want to reuse artwork for a range of different stationery products, or you’ve realised your artwork is the wrong size.

Once you know your dimensions, you can resize your document in InDesign by going to File, Document Setup and typing in the correct dimensions of the document. Click OK to see the document at its new size.

At this point, it’d be a good idea to add bleed. To see how to do that, click here: youtu.be/M-SsKpmQUP8

After resizing, you may find that elements of your document are out of place. Go to preview mode, and press ‘W’ to show the document guides and resize your elements to fit the new document size, right up to the edge of the bleed. If you have images in the document, making them larger or up-resing them might degrade the quality. Try to keep your images at 300 DPI.

Dragging and dropping documents into InDesign will link the files. Edit images in photoshop, or another image manipulation package, and they should update in InDesign. Vector images should resize without any effect on the quality.

Once all the elements of your document are in place, you can export your artwork as a PDF. Make sure you view your PDF at 100% and cast your eyes over the whole document to check.

Finally, make sure to thoroughly check your file before sending it to print.

In combination with the Command/Control and Shift keys, the Selection Tool can be used to simultaneously resize an image and the frame containing it. Details below...

Resize Frame:
Using the Selection Tool, click on a frame to select it. To proportionally scale the selected frame, click and drag a corner while holding down the Shift key.

Resize Image:
When using the Selection Tool, hovering over a frame containing an image will show a donut like graphic at the centre. This is the Content Grabber and clicking on it will select the image within the frame. To proportionally scale the selected image, click and drag a corner while holding down the Shift key.

Resize Frame and Image Simultaneously:
Using the Selection Tool and with a frame selected, to proportionally scale the frame and the image it contains simultaneously, click and drag a corner while holding down the Command/Control + Shift keys.

Sometimes you create a file in a larger size than needed and the customer wants you to scale it down. You could reposition all the elements but that takes times.

Open your document, select the page button on the left side and select your page. In the menu bar select 'scale' from the dropdown menu followed by your preferred size.

In this video, Anne-Marie Concepción shows us how to work with multiple page sizes in one InDesign document. She explains how to get those mixed page sizes using the Pages panel as well as with the Page tool. Use this new trick to create book spines, gatefolds, or even put business cards, posters, and postcards in the same file!
