In this video we go through the steps of how to solve the CodeSignal Interview Prep array challenge entitled: firstDuplicate.

In this video I use Kotlin to solve the challenge, but CodeSignal allows you to choose other languages if you'd like. The overall solution should be transferable to any language.

I chose to code this live-ish, meaning, I didn't really have a solution figured out in my head. I think it's helpful to really deal with pressure even when you're just practicing.

This is how I would prepare for those hard coding interviews if I were to do it all over again. I would optimize my time, follow a schedule and learn data structures and algorithm fundamentals before diving into any programming interview question. The truth is getting a software engineering job is hard and it takes a lot of studying and dedication but it's worth it. The stuff you learn in a computer science degree is very theoretical and it doesn't always translate to coding interviews.

Hi everyone,
I recently did this test for Data Engineer position at RBC through CodeSignal Platform. These are the practice tests, not the real questions (I signed the NDA so I can't disclose the real questions). There are 4 questions for total of 1 hour and 10 minutes. I didn't finish question 3 and didn't even touch question 4.
I also attached my solutions (not optimal) in the end of q1,q2 for your references.

Thanks for watching. The freelance site Upwork uses the coding Challenge/Competition/Recruiting Site Codesignal for their Skill Assessment Certification/Testing. I started doing the challenges on their in preparation for a Skill assessment certification on Upwork. I never did the actual testing but I'm still working my way through the challenges because they are interesting and even with tons of experience in the field, I am learning a ton from them. I think everyone who is serious about coding should go through one of these type of competitions or whatever it is. Anyway, this particular one, about the 170th challenge I've done so far in the last 2-3 weeks had a very interesting, albeit discouraging solution that I wanted to show. Enjoy.

Challenge:
A happy number is a number defined by the following process: Start with any positive integer and replace the number with the sum of the squares of its digits. Repeat this process until the number equals 1, at which point it will stay 1, or it loops endlessly in a cycle that does not include 1. A number for which this process ends in 1 is happy.

Write an algorithm to determine whether or not a number is happy.
