The current Adobe InDesign version (Creative Cloud 2020) cannot export the file in a proper HTML format. Luckily there is a correct way to export your Adobe InDesign file into an HTML web file. The texts and the overall layout is properly exported as an HTML file with this technique. Please download the script file by Indesignsecret.com used in this tutorial: indesignsecrets.com/undocumented-feature-export-fixed-layout-html.php.

Adobe InDesign No HTML Website: Adobe InDesign Interactive PDF Website, No HTML Needed!

Did you know that you can use Adobe InDesign—the graphic design world's standard page layout software by Adobe Systems—to publish content on the web? The best part is that you don't need to know any HTML. Just export your .indd file as an Interactive PDF (Portable Document Format) file, which can contain interactive elements like hyperlinks and buttons. But, there are differences between a PDF website and a coded one.

In this video, you'll see how different browsers display an Interactive PDF site, which has been uploaded to a Bluehost account, and viewed on Mac OS by Apple Systems. The demo compares the same Interactive PDF page in Apple Safari, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox.

The in5 API lets you use ExtendScript to automate and batch the output of your InDesign documents to HTML5.

What is Publish Online?
With Publish Online, you can now repurpose your print documents by publishing them online. You can publish a digital version of an InDesign document that works on any device, in any modern web browser, without the need to install a plug-in.

For a richer document viewing experience, you can publish an interactive InDesign document that includes buttons, slideshows, animation, audio, and video using the interactive authoring features of InDesign.

After you publish your documents, you can provide the online document URL to anyone to view the document in a beautiful, yet simple, online reading experience, on any device and on any platform. You can even share the online document on social networks like Facebook and Twitter or over email with a single click. The document can also be embedded on any website or blog using the embed code provided on clicking the embed option on the viewing layout.

Here are two sample interactive documents published using InDesign CC 2015.

Multiple page spread
You can create an InDesign document that contains spreads with more than two pages, the published document displays multiple pages on a spread in the same way as they are displayed in InDesign.

Publish documents that contain pages with different sizes. The published document maintains the size of individual pages and displays the content on the pages appropriately.

Text hyperlinks
Hyperlinks created on text are supported in published document. InDesign maintains all types of hyperlinks in the published document:

Index markers
Cross references
Image resolution
The image resolution of the published output supports 96 PPI and is the default value for better quality images in the output.

Mobile optimized layout of thumbnails for better viewing and accessibility.

You can choose to share your published documents on Twitter and over email. You can also provide your viewers with the option to download your document as PDF.

Transparency effect
The published online documents support transparency and other effects with blending modes. The only exceptions are text frames, groups, buttons, objects with animation, and MSOs overlapping with objects containing transparency.

Update published documents
You can update a published document by updating the source and republishing it.

In InDesign CC2015 when doing an HTML Export, small images are – when optimized – transformed into embedded code instead of linked with an image file (as usual and desired). But: InDesign writes these files and deletes them again … why ever.
