So do you need a degree for Web Development? A lot of people I see asking this question seem to be worried that they won't get a Junior Developer position without one but the truth is a degree is pretty low down on the list for getting your first development position.

Although a degree may be a prestigious qualification to have, it probably won't focus on the key skills you need in order to become a skilled Junior Developer.

In this web development career tips video we'll discuss whether you need a degree and i'll give you some career tips around your education in general for programming.

Although a degree in computer science is beneficial to have it's not a necessity in today's developer career path. So all you really need is to love to learn to code and tackle any JavaScript (or other programming language) challenges that you come across.

So if you're still wondering whether you need a degree for web development then the short answer is no but we'll discuss the pros and cons of a web development or computer science degree in the video with an emphasis of looking at it from a web development career point of view.

So you are trying to decide if it is worth it to go and get a degree in graphic design to become a graphic designer. You are wondering, is a graphic design degree useless outside of learning the basic skills of a graphic designer.

In this video I want to talk about the benefits of getting a graphic design degree outside of the normal thoughts on what a graphic design degree is! The biggest benefit is see that makes getting a graphic design degree worth it is learning the ability to solve problems and innovate.

The reason a graphic design degree is worth it, and is not useless is because problem solving and having the ability to see things from multiple view points to come up with a solution is very beneficial in life.

When I say life I am speaking about business, science, engineering, etc... will you be able to dive into any of the fields with grand expertise, perhaps not, but what you will bring to the table is a mind that has been trained to critically think through problems.

There are many benefits that make getting a graphic design degree worth it. My thought, a graphic design degree is not useless if you take all that you can learn and apply problem solving and innovation to your life.

In this video I'm going to share with you the story of one of my earliest clients, who turned out to be a real piece of work and made me want to walk away.

When something goes wrong early on, it’s easy to let the failure stain your perception of your career for the worse.

One negative experience can make people quit freelancing – unfortunately, many people have quit because of that.

However, the most important thing you can do in this situation is to learn from it and press on.

Your head will hurt, you’ll have days where you’re absolutely exhausted, but don’t give up.

Your dream is worth more than that.

No doubt, dealing with low-quality clients like the ones I dealt with at the start of my career is soul-sucking, but honestly, it’s a part of every business.

The important part of it is to put everything into perspective, focus on your dream and realize that negative people aren’t going to personally help you reach your goals.

They never do.

Transform negativity as professionally as possible and press on, using that energy to fuel greatness.

With the onset on new applications and platforms these roles are getting closer and closer. Platforms such as Wordpress and Wix are making web design more accessible than ever without the need of a DEEP knowledge of coding.

Now, can anyone jump on one of the platforms and produce a website, well sure, but it takes a real designer to establish a quality product that follow brand identity and goals. This is why web designers and graphic designers a like are so important.

Let's talk about graphic designers vs web designers.

It's really simple!

Graphic designers main role, without blurring any lines or making them do something that is not in there wheel house is as follows:
Logo design, advertising design, print design (including magazine layout, book layout, annual reports, and so forth), web banners, as well as branding. So basically anything that involves creative problem solving that includes the intangible and intangible layout of elements (line, color, imagery, illustrations, shape, text, etc...)

Web designer, well they design websites. It's that simple. They do not know a DEEP a mount of code, but they do know enough to make themselves dangerous with a wordpress theme.

I have a firm understanding a how to create wordpress websites. It is my personal opinion that it is extremely helpful for graphic designers to understand how to design websites. Why? Brand consistency. If I am designing a logo, letterhead, business card, and some ads for a company it only makes sense that I would have the firmest grip on the design aesthetics to carry the branding across multiple design pieces.

Are graphic designers and web designers the same? Not at all! But it is my opinion that a graphic designer who can perform web design skills is extremely beneficial and has greater usefulness to a client.
