NCEES PE Mechanical MDM Practice Exam Problem 53 - Beams (Solution Tips)I made this video to clarify issues with the NCEES solution for PE Mechanical Machine Design & Materials Practice Exam Problem 53. The NCEES solution is fine, however it is unnecessary to draw the entire shear force diagram and then use similar triangles which is always confusing to participants. Also, there is a typo on the left side of the shear force diagram shown in the NCEES solution where 120 in should be 120 lb. Give this problem a try, then watch the video, and let us know if you find it helpful. - Dr. Tom (AKA Dr. Thomas H. NCEES PE Mechanical MDM Practice Exam Problem 28 - Beams (Solution Tips)I made this video to clarify issues with the NCEES solution for PE Mechanical Machine Design & Materials Practice Exam Problem 28. The NCEES solution is fine, except there appears to be an inconsistency between the wording in the statement of the problem and the information shown in the solution as to what value of the shear force should be used. Give this problem a try, then watch the video, and let us know if you find it helpful. - Dr. Tom (AKA Dr. Thomas H. I used Engineer Pro Guides to kickstart my studying process, however, I ended up ordering a few of the recommended books I needed in order to pass. I only had few weeks with these books so I studied about 20 hours a week and marked them up with hundreds of sticky notes so I could navigate faster. After I took the exam, I returned all of the books I ordered and got a full refund, so the exam didn't cost me as much as I thought it would. I received my pass notice from NCEES in mid December. NCEES PE Mechanical MDM Practice Exam Problem 12 - Combined Loads (Solution Tips)I made this video to clarify issues with the NCEES solution for PE Mechanical Machine Design & Materials Practice Exam Problem 12. The NCEES solution begins with an equation that has been the source of a great many questions and confusion by previous participants as to its origin. In this video, I show how this equation comes to define the problem. Give this problem a try, then watch the video, and let us know if you find it helpful. - Dr. Tom (AKA Dr. Thomas H. Mechanical Engineering Machine Design Examples: Slender ColumnsThis video will cover a practice problem relevant to the Mechanical Engineering Machine Design PE Exam — specifically, this problem covers a slender column with both ends build in. As I prepare to take the PE Exam myself, I will be recording an explanation of some of the practice problems I work. Explaining these problems helps me ensure that I understand the material I am reviewing, and it will hopefully prove itself to be useful to others. As more videos are uploaded, I will begin to build playlists organized similarly to how the Mechanical Engineering Reference Manual (MERM) is organized. Slender columns, both ends pinned, both ends fixed, theoretical end restraint coefficient (k), AISC values, Euler, Euler’s curve, Euler los, straight column, buckling column, effective length |
