Cheaper Alternative to Peak Design Tripod SystemI am so tired of having to take mounting plates off my camera and screwing new ones on when I need to use different sized tripods. After looking at a Peak Design video for their newish tripod, I saw how their one mounting plate interchanged with all of their capture systems - and I wondered if I can find a 3rd party adapter so I can use ONE PLATE for all of my tripods. Spoiler: The answer is yes. An alternative to padded camera backpacks like Lowepro, Manfrotto, Peak Design...Padded camera backpacks are typically stiff, boxy, and only designed to carry camera gear. Hiking backpacks are designed for body movement, flexibility and to be light weight. Rather than have a 100% photo-centric backpack, I decided to make a backpack with the features I need from both a hiking bag and a camera bag by making a protective lens caddy. My alternative backpack is much more comfortable to wear on hikes, and I can store things like my bike helmet, or a wet muddy poncho without worry. It is much more discrete when I want to pull my camera out, and less flashy than an expensive looking padded camera backpack when I'm riding the subway. I've considered refining the design of this lens caddy and manufacturing them on my CNC machine. If it's something you'd be interested in, please let me know in the comment section below. |

DROP TEST - Quick Release Camera Strap - DON’T BUY UNBRANDED!!! PEAK DESIGN ANCHORS vs UNBRANDED.This is the final video in a series of 3, this one, DROP TEST, Quick Release Camera Strap & Anchors. UNBRANDED vs PEAK DESIGN, snap in anchors, lugs and adaptor. My first video for from my original accident, dropping my Nikon D700, Nikkor 85mm f1.4 on to rocks when the quick release camera strap snapped. This prompted the next video, how strong are the Unbranded quick release strap anchors? Next camera the test DROP TEST, original camera manufacturers straps vs Unbranded Quick Release Strap and lugs/anchors. This video gave me new appreciation for the value of the original camera straps supplied by camera manufacturers. It also prompted me to throw away all my UNBRANDED quick release strap anchors. Suggested were made, what about PEAK DESIGN anchors. The concept that was copied by UNBRANDED manufacturers. Hence, prompting this next video. In this final video, I repeat the DROP TEST, to see where there is really a big difference between the PEAK DESIGN anchors and UNBRANDED anchors. I was surprised by the results. My focus is photography, nature, landscape, people and adventure travel. A few animals also sneak in from time to time. Property investment and business also get covered to complement the theme of having time and money to pursue your passions, like mine, in photography and adventure travel, 4WD, motorcycle and trekking/hiking, connecting with nature and culture. One Reason to NOT to get the Peak Design Aluminum Travel TripodAfter purchasing the Peak Design Travel Tripod (Aluminum version), I knew right away, unfortunately, it was not going to work for me for one main reason. I also show a few of my other tripods AND what I purchased instead for legitimate traveling. What's in My Daily Backpack (2021)A good backpack is one of the most intimate things we can own. In this video, I'll go over every item I carry in my bag on the daily including a long term review of the Peak Design Everyday Backpack V2 20L. Everything I cover will be in the links below. Heads up: Peak Design has a rock solid warranty and replaced my V1 with a V2 due to a worn zipper earlier this year. Honestly, not much has changed between the updates. And that's a good thing. More pockets, better zippers, and bigger side bottle loaders are about it. Still the same capable bag that I relied on for years. 📫 If you'd like a weekly dose of wisdom, mind maps, and musings check out my newsletter at: silverandsteel.org/newsletter 0:00 - Intro PS: Some of the links above are affiliate links that I get a kickback from! Choosing the right camera strap. PeakDesign Slide lite vs LeashThis isn't a real review, but rather a help video on how I chose a camera strap and which of all the PeakDesign camerastraps might be best for you. Find me on Instagram, Twitter and Youtube @Youknowthebo If you enjoy my content and you would like to support my channel, you can check out my Patreon here patreon.com/youknowthebo ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ FULL DISCLOSURE: This video is not sponsored nor did I receive any money. While I sometimes get bags for free, I have to pay custom fees, shipping fees and all my videos have lots of production costs (e.g. software and musicrights). Therefore I invest my own money into all of these videos and I have no intention to be biased towards a product or company. Every review and quicklook is written by me and no company can pay for preferential scheduling or what is said in the video. Furthermore, the company sees the video the same time as all viewers here on youtube. All opinions in this video are my own unless stated otherwise. ETHICS STATEMENT youtu.be/dbtSEj2qT1c HOW I REVIEW: As you might know from my „How I make a buying decision“ video: Rather than just looking at the pros, I like to evaluate the cons or flaws of an item and then evaluate if I can live with them. That is why in my video reviews I concentrate more on the cons of an item rather than going over all the features. Therefore everything shown is just a fraction of all the points that go into the verdict and score of an item. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A QUICKLOOK AND A REVIEW: A Quicklook usually covers pre-production units or items that I only used for a short period of time. While Reviews cover final items that I have reviewed intensively. LINKS: For all my videos I decided not to include links for the products. Everyone is living in different countries and therefore has to deal with different shipping and customs fees. That is why I would advice everyone just to Google the product within their country to find the best deals. For instance: I live in Germany, It wouldn’t make sense to give you a German link while you might be living in USA or Asia. I hope that is understandable. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ However here is the gear that I use to create videos: - MY CAMERA GEAR - Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 lens Samsung T5 SSD 1GB Smallrig BMPCC4K Camera Cage - MY AUDIO GEAR - Rode RodeLink Lav Mic Rode Procaster (VoiceOver Mic) Zoom H4N Pro Audiorecorder - MY EDITING GEAR - MacBook Pro Retina Logitech MX Master Vortex Poker3 keyboard with cherry mx brown switches * These are affiliate links.
