Ux Design For Nonprofits

Nonprofits need a trustworthy and professional presence for people to engage with them and/or give them money. We can design for trust. Ruen govinder | hashtag nonprofit. Ux means “user experience” and refers to designing and creating products with the user in mind. With nonprofits, this can refer to how a user experiences your organisation via your website. For example, let’s imagine that someone hears about your organisation through a social media post, and they decide. The donation form should be painless for the user. Avoid asking for unnecessary information and use only the necessary fields.

If you don’t talk to your potential users, you will make untested assumptions about what they want and need.

NoVA UX Apr'16: Designing for Non-profit Organizations

Description
Do you work for a non-profit or have you ever thought about donating your UX skills to help a good cause? This session will outline the key guidelines for the UX of nonprofits, specifically animal rescue groups. The discussion will explain how to maximize donation revenue generation, display the pets that are available for adoption, explain the purpose and track record of the rescue, and display the events where people can meet the pets. A rescue website is basically a dating website to match adopters with a pet that is compatible for them. For the volunteers, a well-designed site eases communication of information and the record-keeping required of the non-profit. For people interested in the rescue, a well-designed site enables them to quickly and easily find a compatible pet, learn how they can volunteer to help the animals, and donate to the group. The UX enables the rescues to succeed in their mission of rescuing pets from shelters and abusive situations so that the animals will not be euthanized.

About the Speaker
Bruce Sklar is a UI/UX Web Designer/Developer with over 25 years of experience with both government and commercial clients. He has designed and developed web sites for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Social Security Administration (SSA), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Veterans Affairs (VA), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Bruce is a Section 508 expert. He has worked on commercial applications in areas such as network security, e-commerce, health care, and data analytics. For the past five years Bruce has combined his professional knowledge and love for animals to design and develop websites for animal rescue groups as a volunteer. The animal rescue groups that Bruce works with have adopted more than 500 animals during that time. Bruce has a BS in Applied Statistics and Computer Science from the George Washington University, an MS in Computer Science from George Mason University, and an Applied Scientist degree in Human Factors from the George Washington University. Bruce lives in northern Virginia with his German Shepherd dog and wife.
